Connecting accounts
Adding, managing, and reconnecting bank connections.
Adding an account
From the Accounts tab, tap Add account and choose how you want to connect:
- Search for your bank to connect through Plaid
- Apple Card, Cash, or Savings to connect through Apple (details)
Plaid handles the bank sign-in, which may open your bank's own site or app. Penny never receives your bank password.
Can't find your bank
- Search for the institution's full legal name
- Try the web address you use to log in
- Check whether your credit union is listed under a service provider's name
- Some banks list consumer and business banking separately
Large banks often have several entries: one for retail, one for cards, one for investing. Pick the one matching the site you use.
More accounts from the same bank
Choose which accounts to share during the connection flow. To add accounts to an existing login later, open Add account, choose the Plaid option, and select Manage on the existing connection. Use Connect a Different Bank Login only for a separate login.
Reconnecting
A connection can lapse when you change your bank password, the bank requires renewed authorization, or you revoke third-party access. The account then shows a reconnect banner. Reconnect from there rather than adding the bank again, which keeps the account's history and avoids duplicates.
Joint accounts
Only one of you needs to connect a joint account, since everyone in the household can see it. When the bank provides enough information to identify a duplicate, Penny offers to link the two connections to the existing account.
Removing a connection
Deleting the account in Penny stops the sync and takes it out of your numbers.
To revoke access at the bank as well, remove Penny from your bank's "third-party access" or "connected apps" settings.
