Editing transactions
Change names, merchants, categories, tags, notes, and dates, and see each change.
Tap a transaction to open its details. Viewers can't edit; see roles.
Name and merchant
Setting a name overrides the bank's description, such as SQ *BLUE BOTTLE 0428, on
this transaction only. The original stays visible in the details.
Changing the merchant reassigns this transaction, which changes the merchant totals and recurring payments it counts toward. To rename a merchant everywhere, edit it in Settings → Merchants. To fix many transactions at once, use a rule.
Category and tags
A transaction has one category, which decides where it appears in Cashflow, and any number of tags.
Notes and receipts
Notes and receipt photos are visible to everyone in the household. A transaction can have several receipts, and search matches note text.
Date, amount, and account
You can change the date, including on bank-synced transactions. This can move the transaction into a different month in reports.
Amount and account can't be changed. For a manual entry with the wrong amount or account, delete it and add it again. To divide a charge across categories, split it.
Manual edits are kept
Bank updates and rules never overwrite a date, merchant, or category you set by hand. Custom names, notes, and tags are kept too. The bank can still update the final amount and pending status, and you can edit a pending transaction before it posts.
History
Each transaction keeps a history of its changes, with the old and new value and whether a household member, a rule, or a bank update made each one.
To undo a change, set the previous value again. If a rule changed many transactions, fix the rule and apply it again instead.
